Tangled Past by Leah Braemel

1887, Texas
Forced to marry a man she just met, Sarah McLeod clings to the hope that she’ll finally find the love and acceptance she’s always craved. But her tenuous dreams of a happy life on the frontier are in danger of being dashed by the one thing she can’t change—her husband’s love for another man.
Jackson Kellar’s determined to do right by his bride, yet he’s torn between his newfound love for Sarah and his still-burning desire for Nate.
Ranch owner Nate Campbell loves them both. He hates to see Jackson’s loyalties so divided, and doesn’t want Sarah hurt either. But how can they fix the tangled mess they find themselves in? Nate suggests a possible solution – a permanent threesome.
With the open frontier closing in around them, is Nate’s solution their path to happiness? Or will others destroy what they’ve found together?

This book was such a delight! I fell in love with Sarah, Nate and Jackson while reading their beautiful story set in a time when their way of life was met with death. Leah Braemel's books are shorter than a novel but I found it to be the perfect little interlude I was looking for. Nothing was skimped on and the book came to a perfect conclusion. I love Happilly ever Afters!

Happy Hunk Day Everyone!!!

Deadly Obsession by Katie Reus

Ten years ago, Lilly Carmichael left town without an explanation, breaking Braden Donnelly's heart. The death of her aunt has brought Lilly home-and face-to-face with memories she thought were long buried. Still getting over a traumatic incident from her work as an NSA agent, Lilly initially dismisses the face at her window as a figment of stress-induced paranoia.
Now the sheriff of Hudson Bay, Braden has spent the past year hunting a sadistic murderer. His investigation is turned upside down when new evidence indicates that Lilly is the killer's next target. Determined to protect the woman he's never stopped loving, Braden must race against the clock to trap a dangerous psychopath-before it's too late...

Lilly has suffered from PTSD since surviving an incident so traumatic she questions her own sanity. As the only survivor that was forced to watch and endure the torture and death of her fellow prisoners as well as enduring severe torture of her own she also suffers from severe survivors guilt.

Katie Reus manages to weave these very intense situations and the emotions that inevitably follow into a gripping tale of romance and suspense. I found myself caring for Lilly and Braden a great deal. They each had their own heart break and tragedy to overcome as well as the rekindling of their love for each other.

Be prepared for a massive twist in the tail and a revelation so unexpected it left me gasping and Lilly and Bradon fighting for their lives. I would most definitely seek out more Katie Reus novels in the future.

Heresy book 3 The Scorpian's Sting by Poppet

Just when you think you have Micki all figured out Poppet takes all preconceived notions and turns them upside down AGAIN!! I have never uttered so many expletives reading a book in my natural born life. I cried, I screamed, I ranted and raved. I messaged Poppet several times on her fan page and said "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!!!"
Eventually I came to terms with the fact that I had to just let it go and accept the inevitable. I even started appreciating the new set of circumstances and wouldn't you know it by the end of the book she did it AGAIN! There should be a warning label on this book for all pregnant women and heart patients to only read under careful advisement of their doctor.
Now I am sure you are beginning to wonder if I even liked the book at all. I mean all this emotional upheaval cannot be good can it? Oh No, let me assure you IT IS GOOD!!! Oh so very good. Heresy has become my own brand of heroine. I will read every snippet every byte or bit I can get my hands on, and The Scorpian's Sting was no exception.
In The Scorpian's Sting the group find themselves on an island literally in the middle of nowehere. I do not use the term literally frivolously in this case and you are just going to have to read the book to find out exactly what I mean. The island that springs from Poppets imagination is nothing short of spectacular! Every creature comfort and fantastical whim is catered to in this hedonistic paradise.
Once again we reap the benefits of Poppets extensive background in theology and mysticism as we are treated to incredible new insights and perspectives woven through the story. These treasures of knowledge have become the hallmark of the Heresy series. Do not expect to walk away from these books without at least some shifting of your paradigm.

Again Poppet has brought forth a massive undertaking with no less than 12000 kindle locations which is at least twice the length of a full lenght novel. The pace is fast though as is the case for all Poppet books and I still could not put the book down. I finished in less than 24 hours, albeit a sleepless 24 hours.

If you have not read this series do yourself a favor and read it!!! You will not be sorry.

Golden by Joely Sue Burkhart

Available August 29, 2011

Bred for him…and for his bed.
Golden-eyed Jin has spent her life preparing to be the Emperor’s consort. She knows her destiny is to serve the Emperor by indulging the dark desire that he has buried deep inside his heart—the desire to give pain.
Only she can take the pain he yearns to give, and transform it into the most unimaginable pleasure. But to enjoy all the Emperor can give her, she must survive assassination attempts from those who would keep them apart.
Seducing the Emperor is risky…but it’s the only way to fulfill her destiny.

Golden seduced me from the moment I read the blurb! This is a sensuous tale of dark desires and a woman with a single minded focus towards her goal. Jinn's sharp and cunning mind along with her keen political wisdom propell this story out of mere erotica and into pure perfection.

Be aware that this is a BDSM novella, but it is BDSM at it's best. The scenes are beautiful and probably some of the most erotic I have read. My only sorrow was that this was a quick read and I could have remained in the world of Golden lifetimes.

"I saw that shadowed promise of violence in his gaze and burned to loose that tightly chained beast"

Wyoming Tough by Diana Palmer

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author DIANA PALMER is back with a new and thrilling romance…
A cowboy through and through, ranch owner Mallory Kirk knows what it means to put in a full day’s work. But does his new cowgirl? He has his doubts that Morie Brannt will be able to pull her own weight, even if the petite young woman does seem to have a lot of spirit.
As they spar over events at the ranch and a past that threatens their hopes for the future, sparks begin to f ly, and Mallory can’t help but notice Morie in a new light. But is this tough Wyoming man ready to love?

The characters of Wyoming Tough were exactly what I look for in good well rounded characters! I love my cowboys tough and gritty and they were definitely all that and more. Diana Palmer made her characters real through and through. She managed to create a leading man that was appealing without having to use the obvious tall, dark and handsome cliche. Even better she avoided the unconventional good looks route. Her leading lady Morie is exactly what I look for in a great role model! She made me want to go work on a ranch and get my hands dirty.
Even though for the most part I could see where the book was going I enjoyed every moment of it. To be honest in this type of book I like knowing where it is going. Don't get me wrong there were some nce twists and turns and surprising outcomes all of which gave me a nice pleasing reading experience. I would definitely seek out more Diana Palmer books in the future when looking for a sweet and rugged romance.

Ecstacy Untamed by Pamela Palmer

They are called Feral Warriors -- an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by secrecy and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release...
Shattered by recent nightmarish events, Hawke feels his bond with his animal spirit weakening -- and once it breaks, he's finished. The arrival of Faith sends his life spinning even further out of control, for although she delights him and enflames his deepest primal passions, she's promised to Maxim, the newest Feral Warrior.
Faith is drawn to Hawke from the start, but Maxim holds her in his thrall and has secretly bent her to his malevolent will. Though gravely damaged, Hawke is the only one who can end Faith's slavery and protect the Feral Warriors from Maxim's evil designs. But first they both must embrace the wild...and surrender body and soul to a forbidden, all-consuming ecstasy.

I have just finished reading Christine Feehan's Leopards series and Lora Leigh's Breed's series so I was more than curious to try Pamela Palmer's Feral Warrior's series. It is never easy to delve into an already established series without knowing the back story and I had my concerns that after being ensconced in Lora Leigh's world for so long I would not be able to appreciate a new concept in the genre. I must admit it did take a few chapters to get my bearings, but once I did I found myself enjoying the story of Hawke and Faith. I will not compare to Christine Feehan and Lora Leigh's books because each author has their own merits and quirks.

What stood out most clearly to me was how likeable the characters were. Hawke and Faith are two of the most genuinely warm and endearing characters I have read in a while, and if for no reason else I will continue reading this series in order to catch cameos of them. All in all the rest of the concept was entertaining and well written. It had a decent and inventive storyline and the right amount of intrigue and suspense to keep the reader well motivated.

Avenger's Angel by Heather Killough-Walden

This title will be released on November 1, 2011

When four female angels were created for the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Uriel and Azrael, a chaos spurned by jealousy erupted, and the archesses were secreted to Earth. The four favored archangels followed, prompting a search that has last millennia. But for Uriel, the former Archangel of vengeance, the search ends the moment he lays eyes on Eleanor Granger, his one true arches. Can he protect her from the danger lying in wait for her-and win her heart?

Avenger's Angel obliterated my pre-conceived notions almost immediately! I should have known better than to expect anything Formulaic from Heather Killough-Walden, and in this book she has managed to keep me guessing yet again. HKRWs Lost Angels series is going to create an entire new paradigm on the subject of Angels and in particular one specific fallen angel we all know well.Over the course of the book each and every one of the characters managed to worm their way into my affections, and I am eagerly looking foward to the next three books in the series so that I can spend more time with them.
HKRW succesfully examines the contours of brotherhood as the four archangels battle together to save Uriel's archess. The odds seem overwhelming at times and through it all they band together with a sense of warmth and cameraderie not often succesfully conveyed. Uriel is thrown into some very dificult situations and undergoes painful changes while Ellie has to come to terms with who she is and just what that means. Against all odds they discover a connection that erupts into some very passionate and heart felt moments.
HKRW does a great job of bringing the many elements together in ways that kept me on the edge of my seat and yearning for more at the end of it. I can honestly say I loved every moment of Avenger's Angel and I cannot wait to meet the next archess.

Solar Eclipse (Book 2 of the Heresy series) by Poppet

I am well and truly HOOKED!!! The story of Micki has captured my heart yet again and the past 24 hours have been spent in agony and ecstacy as the events unfolded.

In Solar Eclipse Micki's story takes a twist so earth shattering that it leaves her friends and Grant reeling against impossible odds while facing the grim realisation that they may have lost Micki forever. The ensuing battle is agonising and heart breaking. There were times when I stopped breathing for so long that I was gasping for air and still I kept reading for almost 24 hours straight.

Poppet's writing style is almost chameleon in it's ability to change to fit what the story needs, but the one element that is present in every single book is sheer INTENSITY. Poppet creates an intensity that I have not seen before in any other writing, and for an adrenaline junkie like me that is pure catnip. There are barriers breeched in this book that many author's fear to touch on and I am sure there will be people that might not be able to handle the content but I am not one of those people. It is probably for this reason that I love Poppet books so much.

As with all good things in life there is balance and thank goodness for that. As much intense heart break as there is in this story there is also intense love. There are moments shared between Micki and Grant that transcend all barriers. I am hard pressed to think of any other book I have read where the moments have been as tender and the love as poignant as the love shared in Solar Eclipse.

I did not think it was possible but at over 15000 Kindle locations book 2 is 3000 Kindle locations longer than book 1. That is an entire novel length longer than the first. There is no doubt that this story is epic and addictive, and I cannot wait for book 3 The Scorpian's Sting to come out this Winter.

Heresy by Poppet

First off I should qualify that I have LOVED every single Poppet book that I have ever read. There is something about her writing style that appeals to me on a very deep level. Her style might come accross as unusual to some people and if it does do not let it stop you, read on and discover what is around the bend because the best thing about Poppet is that she never lets you down.
Heresy is a book that is difficult to categorise! It has elements of several different genres but it belongs in a genre all it's own. If I had to categorise it I would say Paranormal romance with a good dash of Da Vinci code and a dollop of occult horror. Heresy was a rollercoaster from the moment I picked it up till the moment I read the last word and still wanted more. That is no easy feat in a book this long. Kindle users will get my drift when I say there are over 12 000 kindle locations in this book and you will definitely be getting your moneys worth.
The central character in this delicious story is Micki! Micki has spent her life honing her spiritual powers and engaging in the spiritual war between light and dark. In doing so she has gained the attention of a seriously sinister cult that will stop at nothing to destroy her ability to combat their evil by destroying her in the most horrific way possible. Micki is not alone in this fight though and she will need each one of her friends unique skills to make it through the insanity that becomes her world. Throw in some very capable and yummy police officers and you end up with a book that is too hot to handle. I am on the verge of gushing non stop about this book so I will spare you all and stop right now while I enjoy the very sweet knowledge that Heresy is only part 1 of a series and that Poppet will be releasing Part 2 very very shortly because really I love love loved this book!!! One last thought: Henceforth a Pog will always be called a Pog by me and Ya'll are gonna have to read the durn book to find out what that means :)
